Adventurous Vehicles - Flexible Edition
Casted aluminium, powder coating
Variable dimension
2022-2023
'Adventurous Vehicles - Flexible Edition' consists of aluminum casted flexitrack-tracks and hybrid barbie doll-cars coated with shiny powder coating. The different parts are placed around the exhibition space - like a kid who has just been playing with its toys.
Nicolai Risbjerg is educated at Bergen Academy of Fine Arts. Through sculpture, performance and installation Risbjerg asks how we get society to embrace more individuals whose identities do not fit into our binary, heteronormative societal structure? With an aim to make the world more gender neutral, more queer, more inclusive, more loving, Risbjerg creates alternative narratives in which classical understandings of gender are dissolved. An example is Nicolai Risbjerg's casted aluminium toys; a car track where the cars are a hybrid between a car and a barbie doll. Childhood is our first encounter with the boy/girl duality, so it is important to come up with alternatives already here, by giving our children a nuanced understanding of the world.
